Hindu Samaj Swindon

Hindu Samaj Swindon (HSS) was established in 1973 by new migrants, mostly from East Africa and India, who shared a link between their new lifestyle in the UK and their identity and inheritance that originated in the Indian sub-continent. The purpose was to build a community of like-minded members for mutual support and celebration of their unique cultural and social activity. Since then, individual and community development has come a long way.

In the last decade, the demographics have changed the Swindon landscape and the Hindu community has seen further changes with the new arrivals of workers, professionals and entrepreneurs from within UK and abroad. Our new generation is self-confident, enterprising and industrious. If opportunity arises, HSS members fully participate and contribute in the social development of the local and wider community.

The Hindu Community, despite its varied geographical origins, have one common feature, that they all share an inheritance of Hindu Faith and Culture. While we all participate in the local community and partake in the British way of life, most of our members are also keen to discover, experience and share their cultural inheritance. HSS provides a platform and an option to the next generation to appreciate the religious beliefs and cultural values of this alternative lifestyle.
